Baltimore Schools & Education
The Baltimore City Public School System serves 109,000 students in 182 schools. Baltimore has more than 14 private schools, including parochial and nonsecular, offering kindergarten through 12th grade.
The city of Baltimore and surrounding region are also home to more than 30 institutions of higher learning, providing a knowledge-based workforce with diverse educational backgrounds and distinct technical skills. Many employers and residents leverage the colleges and universities to gain additional career-oriented education through regular or customized curriculum or advanced degrees.

Baltimore Hebrew University
Baltimore Hebrew University offers a wide array of courses for individuals interested in pursuing a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree program or for those just seeking to expand their knowledge of Jewish studies.
Baltimore International College
Founded in 1972, Baltimore International College offers specialized baccalaureate and associate's degrees; and a certificate program through its School of Culinary Arts, School of Business and Management, and Division of Evening Studies. The college’s campus is located just two blocks from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
College of Notre Dame of Maryland
Founded in 1873 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, College of Notre Dame of Maryland was the first Catholic college for women to award the four-year baccalaureate degree. Today it educates an eclectic population of undergraduate and graduate students. US News & World Report named the college to its “great schools, great prices” listing in the 2005 edition of America’s Best Colleges.
Coppin State University
Coppin State is a model urban, residential liberal arts university located in the northwest section of Baltimore. It offers academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies and continuing education — including 53 major and nine graduate degree programs.
Goucher College
Founded in 1885, Goucher College is a small, private liberal arts and sciences college awarding bachelor of arts and master’s degrees.
Johns Hopkins University
JHU was the first research university in the United States, and it remains a world leader in teaching, patient care and discovery. It is the nation’s top recipient of federal grants.
Loyola College
Founded in 1852 by Father John Early and a group of Jesuits, the college offers undergraduate and graduate programs.
Morgan State University
The university provides a comprehensive range of academic programs through the doctorate.
Peabody Conservatory of Music
Since its founding nearly 150 years ago, the conservatory has served as a gathering place for the music community’s top performers.
Maryland Institute College of Art
Founded in 1826, MICA is the oldest fully accredited art college in the nation. Its undergraduate and graduate programs have been consistently ranked among the nation’s top art programs by US News and World Report.
Sojourner-Douglass College
Sojourner-Douglass is the only private, predominantly black institution of higher learning in the state of Maryland. It offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
St. Mary’s Seminary and University
A Catholic institution, St. Mary’s was founded in 1791. It grants bachelor’s, master’s and professional degrees in theology.
Strayer University-White Marsh Campus
Strayer specializes in continuing education for working adults and offers bachelor’s and master’s degree and certificate programs.
University of Baltimore
Part of the University System of Maryland, Baltimore University includes a school of law, school of business and liberal arts program.
